My mom has this laptop that's used but in good condition other than one flaw. The pin that connects the power to the AC cord was loose. It went from a little loose to very loose in a span of months. On Christmas, it just came wiggled out of place and I couldn't power it up. I had feared it would happen sooner or later, but I knew I wasn't about to send the thing to HP to fix it. My best friend broke hers 4 times at $350 a pop....we didn't even pay $200 for the damn thing (it's worth at least twice that).
So on Christmas morning I unscrewed it and found out it wasn't broken, but nothing was holding it there. I had to take out the network connections and the back flaps covering some port. I decided to superglue it back in place and use the plastic from the back flap to hold it in place. It powered up but only at an angle. This worked for a few weeks, but alas it barely powered up the last two days and I needed to get my remumse (ms) off it.
So I took it apart again and searched the house for something to reinforce it in place. Cause the superglue didn't stick well and I lost the little piece of plastic. It needed to be welded in place, but I didn't have the stuff for that kind of thing. I found a battery cover for a laptop, the top flap of a VHS tape, alummin foil and some electric tape. The battery cover fell apart when I cut it, so I took the VHS tape piece and cut centermeter square out. I used the Alummin foil to keep it down and the square of plastic to push it left. That pushed it enough it made a connection, but it sparked because of the foil. I figured it would happen so I found the piece of electric tape (also used) and wrapped it around the foil. After screwing it back in place, it worked like new (Thank God). I'm planning to get a sod iron, but I'm not pressed anymore.
Anyway...I know I'm not the only one ghetto here....add your MacGyver moment.
