Proud Jackson turns down Sheridan movie role
07/01/2005 - 08:23:31
http://newsfeed.tcm.ie/images/people/samuelljacksonPA.jpg
Samuel L Jacjson has turned down the chance to work with one of his movie icons - because it's in a film starring 50 Cent.
The actor has always wanted to work with Irish movie-maker Jim Sheridan and was thrilled when he heard he was being targeted for a new film by the In America director - and then he realised the role was opposite rapper 50 Cent in his movie debut.
The actor has been extremely vocal about sharing the stage with unproven actors, and felt he had to turn down Sheridan's offer.
He says: "Hollywood people tend to think that because one is successful in one aspect of entertainment they can bring them into this particular world and make a success out of them.
"They ask people like me to be in a film with those people that they are kind of headlining and your name ends up behind them.
"If you do that, it sanctions the fact that these people come into this world and you think they are worthy of you sharing your time on screen with them. I don't particularly think that.
"A month or so ago, someone called me about the 50 Cent movie and I'm like: 'What are you calling me for?' I don't even need to read that because that's not something I want to do.
"I like listening to 50 Cent and I can groove to his music but I don't want to groove to him on screen, just yet. Maybe if he does five movies and he shows some talent.
"I mean how does he get to work with Jim Sheridan and I don't? What is it about 50 Cent that makes Jim Sheridan say: 'I'd really like to make a movie with him'?"

I think he is probably one of the best actors out there period!! He shouldn't have to play second fiddle to anyone! Even more so to someone that isn't even in the same galaxy as he is. He already gets looked over for sorry "other" actors!! Not a rapper too!!!

If it was just about anyone else, I'd say that they were being too full of themself. Sam, on the other hand, is on a whole different level then most of the people in the industry and can say whatever the hell he wants. he has earned that status. besides, how many bad movies have to come out before they realize that rappers (with the exception of cube, queen latifah, and mos def) do not belong in movies. Everything with Ja Rule in it sucks just cause he's in it.

I think unlike 50, Ashanti is more talented and cultured for that unlike the rawness of 50 only fit to play some ol thug shit... besides mos, LL, cube, queen, ice-t and maybe busta i can't think of any other artist that can do the dam thing... i don't blame him one bit... thats like a maybach sharing a parkin spot with an escort gt...

The difference with her role in Coach Carter is she isn't playing lead of Samuel L. She is a co-star! and playing a supporting cast role.

He made a movie with wooden ass vin deisel, how much worse than him can 50 cent be? Besides, This is movies man, we've all seen non actors give good performances, and so called "real" actors suck! mos def, will smith, ice cube, queen latifah and mark wahlberg were all shitty actors once, you gotta give people a chance. P.S. Cam'ron was good as hell in paid in full, better than a whole lotta people samuel l jackson was in flicks with! I didn't forget that Shaft bullshit (except for my man that played peoples)

not dissin u or ne thing but u need to read more. he did say that ashanti cannot act and still does see why she was in it. he did that movie because it was a role he wanted to do and alse he is the star of it not ashanti. so i dont blame him for not doin this cuz am sure 50 cent wouldnt put him in one his songs.

Sam worked hard from the bottom up to gain his status.
Na he shouldnt compromise his talent for someone that
hasnt paid any dues. Ya think they could "use" Al Pachino,
Val Kilmer, Robert denirro, or Densel Washington to play nex
to 50 hell no and they didnt waist they time askin.
This is the level of Sam and he told them right.

That shit is on a completely different level. Here we have a high calibur actor that has done magnificent work in his career no matter how good or bad the movie is he still lead his role to the fullest.
Now if we have a high-calubur actor wanting to work with a certain Director/Writer or whatever the case may be then this Director must be some hot shit!
Here we have a high calubur wanting to work with a director he admires and looks upto and now that he has the chance he finds out he's going to be second best to some rapper that got famous just because of his survival of being shot nine times, is known to make beef/controversy over he say she say bullshit and has NO acting experience other than his "gangsta not wanksta" persona and the DVD's in his own albums? Then you got the nerve to say "what about ashanti? he worked with her" Nigga the only name you see pop up when someone even thinks or speaks about coach carter is SAMUEL L JACKSON he was the main star not Ashanti's co-star
There is a big difference between working with a actor/rapper/singer that has no acting experience as a co-star in some movie that is mainly targeted for the youth and playing second best to an actor/rapper/singer with no experience in a movie with a director that you've always wanted to work with/admired.
If i was in Samuel's shoes I'd feel insulted which I bet he does

COME THE FUCK ON PEOPLE
if that isn't the most display example of hating i've ever read.....i mean, this nigga actually said "Why does 50 Cent get to work with Jim Sheridan and i don't".......WTF?
Bottom line, Sam just wanted TOP BILLING.....and due to the fact the movie was about 50 CENT there was no way he was going to get it

Biel, Ricci and 50 Cent Joining Brave
Source: Variety February 10, 2006
Jessica Biel, Christina Ricci and Curtis "50 Cent" Johnson are joining Samuel L. Jackson and Brian Presley in director Irwin Winkler's Iraqi wartime drama Home of the Brave for Winkler's production company and Emmett/Furla Films.
The story, from a screenplay by Mark Friedman, revolves around three soldiers who struggle to readjust to normal life after returning home from a lengthy tour in Iraq. Jackson will play a doctor who tries to resume his routine, only to find himself unraveling.
Financed by Avi Lerner's Millennium Films and Emmett/Furla, the independent film is budgeted at $12 million. Winkler will begin shooting next month in Morocco. Production will then move to Spokane, Wash.

im shocked to see someone still "keeping it real", as cliche as that phrase has become. im not shocked that is sam jackson tho. 50's losing his credability as a rapper(if he had any to begin with), now they expect him to hold his on next to sam. bitch please. i saw half of "get rich.." and that shit was so ugh. 50 cent is a cash cow now, he's hot in the music bizz put him in some movies. same shit happened to ja fool, now his music and movie career is a non-factor. you go to the movies you want to see the character not 50 cent. only real actors can pull that off. kill the machine people.
